![]() Technology to Tackle Billions in Waste in Healthcare: Medtech Startup Simplants Launches PlatformHealthcare systems worldwide are under pressure: rising costs, staff shortages, and inefficient processes. In the €600 billion medical device market alone, nearly €30 billion is wasted every year through manual, non-data-driven workflows.
By: simplants Together with launch partner Silony Spine, a leading implant supplier, Simplants developed the first taxonomy for medical devices, which has since been extended to additional manufacturers and product groups. In October, the platform will roll out at a German hospital group performing several thousand spinal surgeries per year. Simplants' ontology integrates seamlessly with ERP systems, connecting previously siloed data. Supply chain transactions are captured in a digital loop — data → transactions → analytics → prediction — enabling AI-driven, demand-based management of inventory and resources. Both manufacturers and hospitals can significantly reduce costs, inventory levels, working capital, and operational inefficiencies. Independent studies show that up to 20% of medical device costs can be saved, directly easing the burden on healthcare systems. Unlike traditional B2B marketplaces, Simplants is not a simple catalog website. The company is building end-to-end digitalization of existing procurement and sales flows, with an open marketplace and partner ecosystem to follow in the next phase. Founded in 2025 in Hamburg, Simplants has raised €2.2 million in seed funding. https://www.simplants.com End
