| ![]() Are Fossil Shark Teeth a Good Investment? A 30-Year Perspective from Industry VeteransHere's what we've learned about the long-term value of fossilized shark teeth
By: Steve's Fossil Shark Teeth Inc. Of course fossil shark teeth have value—sometimes very large value. We've been selling them for almost 30 years now. We've seen the market through highs and lows and have a fantastic grasp on overall values and trends. But let's start with the obvious: these amazing fossilized teeth should first and foremost be purchased for your enjoyment and the prehistoric wonder. They're millions of years old and no two teeth are the same. Why just have one Megalodon tooth when the next one is completely different—shape, color, weight, serrations, and more? So buy for your own personal reasons. But what about as a store of value? Let's go back to 1995 when we got into this and look at a 30-year trend. Stocks have returned around 9–10% per year on average. Not many collectibles can match that, but fossil shark teeth have done well—around 5.5% per year compounded. Not too shabby for something you can actually hold and enjoy. https://youtu.be/ Collectors don't just stash these away—they look at them all the time, share them, photograph them, and genuinely love their collections. Fossils have proven surprisingly recession-proof. Prices held strong during the 2006 housing crash and even soared during Covid. We saw values nearly double in a year and struggled just to keep up with inventory. That "boom" never really stopped—values continue to grow. Higher-end teeth seem to grow faster in value than average pieces. That's pretty consistent across collectibles— In summary, fossil shark teeth have proven to be a great long-term store of value that you can hold, touch, and share. What the future holds, nobody knows. But if everything goes to zero… it'd sure be cooler having a big Meg tooth than a blank screen. https://youtu.be/ Disclaimer: This article is not intended as or is a substitute for professional legal advice.
