The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) announced the law to address the city's growing stray animal problem and improve public safety. Officials say the regulation will help track lost pets, reduce stray populations, and make owners more accountable. The new rule requires pet owners to microchip their cats and dogs within 30 days of purchase or no later than 120 days of the animals' birth. The regulation also limits how many pets residents can keep, based on the size of their living space. For example, people living in apartments or condos between 20 and 80 square meters can have only one pet. Larger apartments may have two pets, while houses with bigger land areas can keep up to six pets. Owners of certain dangerous breeds, such as pit bulls and Rottweilers, must inform their local district office. These breeds will be subject to special control measures, although specific details are yet to be announced. The law also restricts the keeping of livestock like cows, horses, ducks, and chickens to designated agricultural zones. The BMA has not yet revealed the exact penalties for breaking these rules, but officials warn that enforcement will begin once the adjustment period ends. To prevent last-minute issues, veterinarians and animal organizations advise pet owners to begin the registration and microchipping procedure as soon as possible. Deputy city governor Tavida Kamolvej explained that these steps aim to create a safer environment for both people and animals. The BMA stresses that public safety is the main goal, and all pet owners must comply or risk facing consequences. End
