Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation Debuts First Community Little Free Library

VENTURA, Calif. - May 1, 2025 - PRLog -- Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (Cabrillo EDC) is thrilled to announce the debut of its "Little Free Libraries" project. This initiative is designed to promote literacy and provide free book access for residents in its affordable housing communities. The first Little Free Library was installed at the Paseo Santa Clara and Paseo Del Rio Apartments in Oxnard, followed by installations at the Snapdragon Apartments in Ventura and Villa Victoria Apartments in Oxnard. This project coming to fruition marks a new chapter in Cabrillo EDC's commitment to enhancing community engagement, literacy, and education for its residents.

The Little Free Library, a small, free community book-sharing box, provides residents – both children and adults – access to books to encourage reading, learning, and creativity. This international program aims to build a stronger sense of community engagement and support literacy in local communities. Little Free Libraries create opportunities for neighbors to exchange books and share stories, fostering a love of reading in the heart of the neighborhood.

Cabrillo EDC plans to install 10 Little Free Libraries at their properties throughout Ventura County. "Each Little Free Library will be more than simply a box of books; it's a symbol of our commitment to creating vibrant communities where our residents can thrive in all aspects of life," said Victoria Brady, CEO of Cabrillo EDC. "Cabrillo EDC thanks all of the donors and contributors who made this possible."

Cabrillo EDC's Little Free Libraries program received grants from the Foundation of Ventura County Credit Union (VCCU) and the Harriet Samuelsson Foundation in addition to donations from individuals and businesses. "At the Foundation of VCCU, we believe that programs like the Little Free Libraries can open doors to brighter futures through access to books and literary resources," said Alma Medina, President of the Foundation of VCCU. "We are proud to support Cabrillo EDC's project and help bring the joy of reading, learning, and connection to the residents of their affordable housing communities."

"Witnessing the excitement around the opening of the first CEDC Little Free Libraries is truly heartwarming," said Jennifer Curtis-Neves, Senior Vice President of Consortium Media. "We at Consortium Media are deeply honored to contribute to this initiative. Knowing that these books will inspire young minds and enrich the lives of residents fills us with immense joy."

Each Little Free Library will be stocked with a wide variety of books, including children's literature, fiction, non-fiction, and educational resources. Residents are encouraged to take a book, leave a book, and help the library grow.
