Follow on Google News | Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands partners with SCCF and Sanibel School for Earth DayBy: Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands On April 22, Richard Finkel, SCCF environmental educator, and David Lowden, Bank of the Islands vice president, joined the Sanibel School's fourth grade class for their re-greening project on the preserve. Bank of the Islands underwrote the purchase of 500 pots of Spartina grasses for the students and volunteers to plant. The salt-tolerant marsh plants will provide a more resilient landscape to support interior wetland species such as freshwater turtles and marsh rabbits. "We have enjoyed such longstanding and meaningful relationships with both SCCF and the Sanibel School over many years in different ways," said Robbie Roepstorff, president of Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands. "Being able to come together for this special Earth Day event was both memorable for the students and a positive step forward for our island community's continuing hurricane recovery." Named for the late Tom and Sue Pick who gifted SCCF the 26 acres of land directly across from the Sanibel School, the Pick Preserve has long served as an outdoor classroom for environmental education.
