Brandyn Barbara (Artis) Bunker, an actress, playwright, author, and breast cancer awareness advocate whose career spanned film, television, literature, and stage, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at age 81.
Known for her memorable roles in
THX 1138 (1971),
Man from Atlantis (1977),
The Doctor (1991), and
General Hospital, Artis brought depth and presence to every performance. A U.S. Air Force veteran and breast cancer survivor, she channeled her journey into her acclaimed one-woman play
Sister, Girl, performed nationwide and abroad. Her writing appeared in
The Dallas Morning News,
The Breast Anthology, and her novel
Running Barefoot in Paris.
Artis was the Grand Prize Winner of Harper's Bazaar/Estée Lauder's "Fabulous at Every Age" contest—an honor that reflected her timeless style and spirit.
She was the widow of renowned jazz percussionist Larry Bunker, known for collaborations with jazz legends and contributions to film music.
