The Ancient Trails of Bhutan: 18 days from £6895 per person

BASINGSTOKE, U.K. - Jan. 22, 2025 - PRLog -- The Trans Bhutan Trail is a 403-kilometre path that crosses from east to west, stretching from Haa to Trashigang and crossing 27 gewogs (villages), and across nine dzongkhags (districts).

The trail dates back as far as the 16th century, and was used by monks, pilgrims, and traders;  it was the only way to cross the country, but it fell into disuse and disrepair after the construction of Bhutan's first national highway in 1962.

The King of Bhutan first announced plans to restore the trail back in 2018, and it has now been restored and is open for visitors looking to get beyond the usual tourist sites in this idyllic Himalayan Kingdom.

Bamboo Travel has been working hard with local partners to create the new, 18-day, The Ancient Trails of Bhutan (https://bambootravel.co.uk/tours/the-ancient-trails-of-bhutan) tour, that includes a hike along part of the ancient trail, to provide a unique perspective into Bhutan's rich cultural heritage and natural charms.

The guided adventure begins in Haa – whose major feature is the Haa Valley, a steep north-south valley with a narrow floor. The district is presided over by three mountains collectively referred as 'Three Brothers.'

From there the trail takes you through lush valleys, dense forests, and picturesque villages, as well as more famous destinations like Thimphu, Punakha, Bumthang and Paro.

The walking days, whilst reasonably challenging, allow you to fully immerse yourself in the peaceful scenic surroundings, safe in the knowledge that in the evening you will be in comfortable accommodation where you can enjoy Bhutanese cuisine and get a good night's rest before the next day's adventure.

In all, there will be six days on the Trans-Bhutan Trail, plus tours of Thimphu and Paro.

Thimphu is the capital and biggest city in Bhutan and is also the sixth highest capital city in the world.

Paro, located in the Paro Valley, is an historic town with many sacred sites and historical buildings scattered throughout the area.

No visit to Bhutan would be complete without a visit to the extraordinary Tiger's Nest Monastery, spectacularly located on a cliffside in the upper Paro Valley.

Construction of the monastery commenced in 1692, and today it is a sacred Vajrayana Himalayan Buddhist site.

The holiday costs from £6,895 per person, based on two people sharing a room.

This includes international flights (Etihad), 13 nights' accommodation, most meals, private transportation throughout, activities as per the itinerary, sightseeing/entrance fees and a private guide.
