Exceptional Families of the Military Non-Profit Announces New EFMP Grant

WASHINGTON - Sept. 12, 2024 - PRLog -- The Exceptional Families of the Military (EFM), a non-profit who supports military families enrolled in the Department of Defense's Exceptional Family Member Program, announced the start of their new medical parking and food grant. The Exceptional Food Medical Parking grant by EFM seeks to remove financial barriers for families which struggle to attend necessary medical appointments at hospitals due to the additional cost for parking and food which are not covered by TRICARE.

This grant has been made possible by the generous donations EFM received from The Submarine Officers Spouses Association-Washington, The Joint Base Myer - Henderson Hall Thrift Shop, and Hurlburt Spouses Club.

With the donations that EFM has received, they estimate being able to give 298 grants to EFMP families in need to offset the parking and food costs that arise while attending medical appointments at hospitals. Each grant will be for $30 which will provide $10 for parking, and $20 to cover the meal of one parent and the exceptional family member. They are seeking additional donors as well to continue giving this grant as need arises.

"In our last two surveys, families have shared they are choosing between medical care and food. In an attempt to alleviate even a small portion of that burden we've been hard at work fundraising for this grant program," says Chief Executive Officer Austin Carrigg, "We believe no family should ever choose between paying to park at the hospital or a loaf of bread."

Families in need can apply for an EFMP grant through EFM's website at www.exceptionalmilitaryfam.com/efmp-grant-from-efm-1. The turnaround time for a grant is about seven days, therefore, it is requested that applicants put in their application ahead of time to assure timely delivery of the grant for their medical appointments.
