Red Eye Blues (Radio Edit) – Mike Field's New Single Out Now

Mike Field's "Red Eye Blues (Radio Edit)" is a melodic and cool jazz tune in the style of Charles Mingus, Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins. It's an original song by Mike, inspired when he was travelling often between Toronto and Los Angeles and writing tunes for his "Rush Mode" album. On these trips, he usually took the more budget-friendly red eye flights across the continent, and of course suffered the consequences like lack of sleep and being in a total daze the following day. This inevitably worked its way into his compositions. This recording is performed by Mike's quintet and features the chill sound of the Fender rhodes, along with trumpet, tenor saxophone, drums and upright bass.

Originally from Mike's "Rush Mode" album, the radio edit version has slightly shortened solos and only one key modulation.

The video, produced by Mike Field and Maya Dornig, is a strikingly colourful media clip filmed on location in Toronto's Graffiti Alley, with red and black scenes from Mike's downtown apartment interspersed throughout. You'll see him dressed in white coveralls joyously playing his horn against multicoloured backdrops, as well as in a plain red shirt against a bare white background.

While filming the video, two other musicians who were also filming a video in the same location approached Mike, asking if he could perform briefly for their own video. They were excited about the look of Mike playing a trumpet and dressed in white in front of the colourful background and wanted a piece of the action. Mike kindly obliged, but also managed to get some footage of them filming him, which he then included it in his own video, bringing the experience full-circle.
