SAN JOSE, Calif. - April 23, 2024 - PRLog -- The Tenacious Group, in partnership with Santa Clara County Public Health, introduced the "Air Care" climate literacy training and curriculum to high school students at the Latino College Preparatory Academy. Situated in low-income and disadvantaged neighborhoods identified by the California Climate Investments tool and CalEPA, this initiative aimed to empower students to address air quality challenges.

Air Care serves as an introductory program to air quality adaptation, engaging students in interactive learning experiences to combat air pollution and foster personal responsibility for cleaner air. Through firsthand experiences and real-time air quality measurements, students explored the impact of air pollution on their living environments and communities. Designated as "Air Scientists," participants undertook the task of analyzing indoor and outdoor air quality. They began by assessing air leaks in their homes, monitoring designated rooms for Air Quality Index (AQI) fluctuations. Equipped with air quality monitors, air purifiers, and DIY purifier kits, students actively tracked and recorded air quality data in various settings, including classrooms, neighborhoods, restaurants, and gyms. This hands-on approach facilitated a deeper understanding of the significance of air quality management. The program culminated in students sharing their Air Care experiences through classroom presentations.

One Air Care participant, Alex, reflected on the transformative nature of the experience, noting its profound impact on his perception of air pollution and personal habits. "This experience, changed the way I look at air pollution, for the rest of my life."

Principal Jesus Rios praised the effectiveness of the Air Care program, emphasizing its engaging format that fostered a sense of empowerment among students. "Plans are underway to expand Air Care in the upcoming school year."

The Tenacious Group is committed to promoting equitable access to air quality education in East San Jose schools serving under-resourced communities. Executive Director Adam Ybarra has pledged support by providing curriculum resources, lesson plans, and air quality kits to classrooms. In celebration of Earth Day, snake plant kits (planting pot, soil, snake plants leafs) were distributed to students at the Latino College Preparatory Academy, encouraging environmental stewardship. "The snake plant is considered a top reducer of indoor air pollutants."

To further support educational initiatives, the Tenacious Group offers the Air Care curriculum, teaching slides, and pre/post surveys free of charge to schools and organizations. Interested parties can access these resources through the Tenacious Group website. (www.thetenaciousgroup.com)
