Global High School Teams Shine in Prestigious 2023 Mathematical Modeling Contest

BEDFORD, Mass. - Feb. 6, 2024 - PRLog -- The Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP) proudly announces the successful conclusion of the 2023 High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling (HiMCM®), showcasing the brightest young minds in mathematical modeling from around the globe.

This year's HiMCM attracted 967 teams, consisting of up to four students each, from 417 schools across 18 countries/regions, demonstrating the international appeal and competitive spirit of the contest. Between November 1-14 2023, these teams engaged in rigorous mathematical problem-solving, choosing one of two complex modeling problems to tackle and submitting their innovative solutions.

The contest highlighted exceptional talent, with teams earning top honors for their outstanding solutions:

  • St. George's School, BC, Canada
  • Nanjing Foreign Language School, Jiangsu, China
  • Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School, Minghang, China
  • Shanghai Pinghe School, Shanghai, China
  • BASIS International School Guangzhou, Guangdong, China
  • Shanghai Pinghe School, Shanghai, China
  • Durham Academy, NC, USA (NCTM Award)
  • Mass Academy of Math & Science, MA, USA

Notable participation highlights of the 2023 HiMCM include:
  • Outstanding Teams: 9 (1%)
  • Finalists: 54 (6%)
  • Meritorious: 139 (14%)
  • Honorable Mention: 256 (26%)
  • Successful Participants: 501 (52%)
