ST. PAUL, Minn. - Dec. 17, 2023 - PRLog -- This is the season of giving and contributing to the welfare of others. Planting People Growing Justiceā„¢ Leadership Institute (PPGJLI) founder, Dr. Artika R. Tyner, and Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church founding pastor, Rev. Carl Walker, have just returned from a visit to Sierra Leone where they contributed in a major way by supporting the Living Word International Academy.

"We're proud to support Living Word International Academy, uplifting their literacy program, and contributing to building a well," said Tyner. "Together, we're sowing seeds of education, seeds of education, access to clean water, and nurturing brighter futures for these communities. Join us in celebrating this impactful collaboration that embodies our commitment to literacy, education and community development. Together, we're making a difference."

The support received through PPGJLI and Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in the community development project encourages students and the community in multiple ways. The visit by Tyner and Walker promotes literacy, educational programs, scholarships for scholars, water sanitation, and agriculture. When combined, the elements enable students to continue their education, and seek a better future for themselves that also benefits others.

Literacy is essential for educational opportunities and success later in life. The current literacy rate for individuals age 15 and older in Sierra Leone is 47.70 percent. It represents a 4.49 percent increase over 2018, due in large part to the types of education programs such as the event in which Tyner and Walker participated.

Potable water is critical to health and survival. Nearly half of the residents of the West African country don't have access to a protected, sanitary water source. Most water lies in ponds and similar bodies that can be contaminated by parasites and infectious organisms. Contaminated water is the largest source of death in the country. The well building project provides a sanitary source of water for students and the community.

The visit to Sierra Leone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYDmcDuFvM8) by Tyner and Walker is contributing to the education, literacy, health and longevity of young people now and into the future. In turn, students are maturing with the drive and leadership skills to influence future generations.
