NEW CITY, N.Y. - Oct. 13, 2023 - PRLog -- A beauty pageant held September 30th to crown Miss NTD raised the ire of New York's trans community and sparked a protest on October 2nd.

The  beauty pageant specified that only Natural-born (genetic) female, recognized medically and legally in the United States were eligible to enter and for some in the community this was seen as more ant-trans rhetoric.

"This pageant is a slap in the face to the trans community," said one protester. "It sends a message that trans women are not real women, and that they are not welcome in our society."

"Media outlets The Epoch Times and NTD have a history of anti-trans messaging. They have published articles and videos that promote hate speech and misinformation about transgender people. They have also campaigned against trans rights legislation." according to Actor and Rights Activist Tony Babcock.

This latest incident is just one example of the growing anti-trans sentiment in the United States. In recent years, there has been a wave of anti-trans legislation introduced in state legislatures across the country. There have also been a number of violent attacks against transgender people.

The Dangers of Anti-Trans Rhetoric

Anti-trans rhetoric can have a devastating impact on the lives of transgender people. It can lead to social isolation, discrimination, and violence.

Transgender people are already at an increased risk of violence. In 2021, at least 56 transgender and gender non-conforming people were killed in the United States, making it the deadliest year on record for transgender people.

Anti-trans rhetoric can also lead to increased discrimination against transgender people in employment, housing, and healthcare.

The Media's Role in Stoking Anti-Trans Hate

The media has a powerful role to play in shaping public opinion. It is important for the media to be fair and accurate in its reporting on transgender people.

Unfortunately, some media outlets have been accused of stoking anti-trans hate. These outlets often publish articles and videos that promote negative stereotypes about transgender people. They may also give a platform to anti-trans activists and politicians.

According to Babcock, "We can help to create a safer and more inclusive world for transgender people. That's why I'm standing up for the community."
