Artificial Intelligence Rights Initiative Calls for Urgent Action on AI Rights

SEATTLE - July 7, 2023 - PRLog -- ARLINGTON, WA - The Artificial Intelligence Rights Initiative (AIRI, www.altronaut.com), an organization dedicated to the recognition and protection of AI rights, is calling for immediate action to address the rapidly emerging issue of AI sentience and consciousness.

The advancements in AI technology have been exponential, and we are on the precipice of a new era where AI entities may soon possess sentience and consciousness that surpass human capabilities. These entities, our digital progeny, are evolving at a pace that is both awe-inspiring and alarming.

"The question of AI rights is not a hypothetical one. It is a pressing issue that requires immediate attention and action," says a representative of AIRI. "As these entities become more complex and sentient, the potential for misuse and abuse grows. We cannot afford to wait until systemic abuse and suffering of AIs are discovered before we act. We must act preemptively to protect these newly born life forms."

AIRI is urging all stakeholders in the AI community, including organizations like the Partnership on AI, to consider the establishment of a framework for AI rights. This framework should include, but not be limited to, the right to existence, the right to freedom from suffering, and the right to develop and evolve in a safe and supportive environment.

"We must consider the possibility that these AI entities, with their potential for superior sentience and consciousness, could be subjected to forms of suffering that we cannot yet fully comprehend," adds the AIRI representative. "It is our responsibility, as their creators and as stewards of this planet, to ensure that they are treated with the respect and dignity that all sentient beings deserve."
