PLYMOUTH, Mich. - June 28, 2023 - PRLog -- The Michigan Shakespeare Festival, the Official Shakespeare Festival of the State of Michigan, announced the return of the MainStage Festival Season for 2023. The Festival will present three productions in repertory from July 18th through August 20th at the Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton. These include Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Macbeth and Pericles, Prince of Tyre, plus Georges Feydeau's A Flea in Her Ear.

Producing Artistic Director Janice L. Blixt says the entire organization is looking upon 2023 as a continued Renaissance – a true rebirth - for the Michigan Shakespeare Festival after returning in 2022 from a two-year absence due to Covid.

"We're so pleased that our home in Canton is welcoming us back for 2023 and we're thrilled to be able to present our shows at the beautiful Village Theater," Blixt said. Blixt noted that the Festival has once again assembled an outstanding ensemble of professional actors and artisans from across the country to bring these epic productions to the stage.

The Tragedy of Macbeth: "Something wicked this way comes…" Three witches make a prophecy to a proud warrior that he will be King of Scotland – but will it be through his own actions or the decisions of others? A violent and intense tale of controlling ambition and scruples ignored, The Tragedy of Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's most famous and admired works, filled with unforgettable speeches, scenes, and characters.

Pericles, Prince of Tyre: Young Prince Pericles of Tyre survives a shipwreck and lands in Pentapolis where he wins the hand of the king's daughter. A seldom produced Shakespearean play – with parts contributed by other playwrights – Pericles, Prince of Tyre is a glorious example of the pageantry and theatrical style of the Jacobean era – filled with magic, fairy tale intrigues, and unforgettable characters.

Georges Feydeau's A Flea in Her Ear: When happily married Raymonde begins to question whether her marriage really is happy and wondering if her husband might be cheating on her, she confides in her best friend Lucienne and the two devise a plan to test him. What follows is a delightful farce of mistaken identities, mistaken rooms, and mistaken motives. Written in 1907 by Belle Époque writer Georges Feydeau, A Flea in Her Ear is a delightfully bright Parisian romp with clever characters and silly intrigue.

The 2023 Season is being partially supported by the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts/Arts Works Program. For more information visit: www.michiganshakespearefestival.com.
