Follow on Google News | Wildfires Cause State of Emergency in Western Canada YOU CAN HELPOver 25,000 people are currently evacuated from their homes and communities throughout the Province of Alberta and fires continue to grow. Western Canada has seen very warm temperatures which have created an early start to wildfire season.
Alberta's Premier, Danielle Smith has declared the state of emergency this afternoon in what she has stated, "this is an unprecedented crisis" while the provincial Public Safety Minister, Mike Ellis says Albertans under evacuation notice should NOT delay leaving their homes as fires are burning out of control and the situation is evolving rapidly. At this time there are 110 wildfires burning throughout Alberta and of which, 36 are considered out-of-control. With a current estimate of 25,000 residents evacuated from their homes, there are also another 5,700 on evacuation alert and could get the order to leave at a moments notice. The federal government and province of Quebec are sending assistance to the fire zones and the province has assured Albertans that they have a contingency fund of around $1.5 billion for emergencies. This has been an important issue for the province since the wildfires continue to get worse year over year due to global warming, earlier starts to fire season and later ends to the typical fire seasons in the west of Canada.
