SALISBURY, U.K. - March 11, 2023 - PRLog -- Children with ADHD and autism often struggle in traditional classroom settings due to the rigid structure, large class sizes, sensory challenges and pace of the curriculum. They may find it difficult to concentrate and stay focused in an environment that is overcrowded or moving too fast or slow for them. Online schools can present similar challenges, with students feeling isolated and lacking the personal interaction that is essential for their learning and development.

Gaia Learning specialises in supporting neurodiverse learners and its expanded timetable has places available for learners aged 8-16 from April 17, 2023. Parents, carers and schools can sign learners up on a pay-per-week basis.

Founder, Kirstin Coughtrie, left teaching in the traditional classroom and designed Gaia Learning online because school didn't work for her son. Last year she was also diagnosed with ADHD.

"Gaia have been really successful engaging kids with ASD, ADHD and complex social emotional needs to love learning again, but more than that we often have reports of a knock on positive effect on family wellbeing when school isn't a constant battle. Many of our students have reengaged with education after regaining their confidence, some stay on flexibly and for an increasing number we offer a long term schooling solution," Coughtrie said.

The programme is led by qualified British teachers and tutors with experience in engaging learners who are neurodiverse in an online classroom. Gaia Learning has 50 places remaining for the summer term and is currently seeking investment with the ambition to offer an additional 500 places for the academic year 2023-24.

Over the past 2 years, Riverside Education in Birmingham has successfully worked with Gaia Learning to support young people suffering from anxiety to access education.

The Director of Education at Riverside said, 'The programme is very well organised and has been designed to enable students to manage their own work effectively. Students have the freedom to access the programme at any time independently as well as accessing online one to one and small group sessions. I was able to go into the students' "FlexiSchool classrooms" and see examples of work being produced. I was also able to see how easy it is for the students to navigate and take control of their own learning.'

The online timetable offers small class sizes, regular breaks, and national curriculum-aligned sessions to help learners stay on track academically. In addition to academic support, the online timetable also includes lunch club, ADHD coaching, life skills, career preparation, and global challenges around the UN Sustainable Development Goals to support learners' overall development and wellbeing.
