Mercury environmental and deadly atmospheric pollution is represented to be caused by the approximate 20 million impoverished artisanal and small-scale gold (ASG) miners all largely having undiagnosed mercury poisoning from using mercury to amalgam (bind) with the liberated gold in a crushed or milled ore slurry. The amalgam is heated up to 1,200 degrees Celsius vaporizing the mercury to the atmosphere leaving behind the recovered gold which collectively, represents 20% of the world's supply of artisanal gold used in our jewellery, iPad, iPhone, computers, and other e-devices. After years of research and building on the experience of our contemporaries who continue to address the mercury human health threats and biodiversity destruction caused by artisanal miner's processing ore, it is the opinion of the Author the only way to address this issue is to change the process used to recover gold from ore.
