Second International Interfaith Conference Modeled on Fratelli Tutti and Laudato Si'

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Jan. 20, 2023 - PRLog -- Global Ministries University is once again co-sponsoring an international, interreligious conference. This second biennial event is titled, "Walking Together in the Light of Fratelli Tutti and Laudato Si'."  The Institute for Interreligious Dialogue and Islamic Studies (IRDIS) at Tangaza University College, Kenya, the Harmony Institute of Kenya, and Umma University, Kenya, are co-sponsors along with the Vatican Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue (DID), the Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns, the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI), the Institut Catholique de la Méditerranée (ICM) and the Tevere Institute of Italy.

The conference will take place on February 2-4, 2023, during the United Nations Interfaith Harmony Week, fittingly ending on the UN International Day of Human Fraternity with closing prayers by religious leaders from around the world. The event is free and open to all. It will be live-streamed on YouTube.

The central hub of the conference will be located at Tangaza University in Nairobi, Kenya. Global Ministries University will host the "Hub of the Americas" in California.

Keynoting the 3-day event will be Fr. Paulin Batairwa Kubuya, sx, Under-Secretary of the Vatican Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, Dr. Azza Karam, Secretary General of Religions for Peace, Ela Gandhi, former member of the South African Parliament and granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi, and Bishop John Stowe, OFM, Bishop of the Diocese of Lexington, KY, and Bishop-President of Pax Christi USA.

Panel presentations and workshops offered by the Hub of the Americas will focus on the environment and climate change; women's contributions to global solidarity; the status of immigrants, refugees, and indigenous peoples; establishment of a "Just Peace"; and the responsibilities of global citizenship. Contributors include the Catholic Climate Covenant, Maryknoll Affiliates, and the Laudato Si' Movement.  Moderators and speakers include Mary Ryan-Hotchkiss, Ph.D., Deirdre Griffin SSJ, Esq., Katharine Davies Samway, Rev. Corey Passons, Dr. Sudarshan Kapoor, and Nahid Ahmed. A full list of speakers and descriptions of their presentations is available on the Global Ministries University website.

There will be no charge to participate but donations are welcome.
