YORK, U.K. - Sept. 17, 2022 - PRLog -- According to the local Police and Commissioner for North Yorkshire, a modernised digital system would save the county's district and county councils yearly amount compared to the money they currently pay on outdated analogue CCTV. It was revealed at a meeting of the Local Government North Yorkshire and York committee that five different CCTV control centres in Catterick, York, Scarborough, Harrogate, and Selby were in charge of the county's 600 or more public space cameras.

In favour of a single, trust-managed CCTV control room that would employ web-based technology and be available from anywhere, advised municipalities to give up direct supervision of the cameras. According to North Yorkshire Police Assistant Chief Constable, the technology is out-of-date and the image quality is impeding investigations and legal proceedings. He said, "We just completed a counterterrorism security assessment for the city of York. In order to stop terrorist operations in North Yorkshire, CCTV was mentioned as an important instrument for us to consider as a deterrent and for intelligence gathering.

"It goes beyond merely crime; it also involves overseeing road safety. With the World Cycling Championships, we will have important events over the course of the following year. We are under a lot of pressure to make the public safe for these kinds of public events, both from a terrorist standpoint and in terms of how we can keep our highways secure.

The failure to deploy a new CCTV strategy in North Yorkshire will result in a decline in service that is incompatible with the demands of modern police and the need for a streamlined service into the criminal justice system, independent assessors had concluded in their report to the conference. Several council leaders questioned if getting rid of their current systems would save money or be beneficial.

According to Mark, the head of the District Council, we must examine the report. I am aware of the substantial sums has spent over the years on sophisticated CCTV systems. North Yorkshire Council Richard continued, "I think this is an excellent suggestion. It does need to be looked at. Before continuing to address the matter, senior council officers decided to research the implications for councils.
