By: ZamZam Rabi Al-Awwal's name translates as the first season of spring, and it is the 3rd month of the Islamic calendar Muslims determine this as a holy month in which Prophet Muhammad was born. Rabi' Al-Awwal month offers an opportunity for mankind to reflect on the importance of our Prophet (peace be upon him) and the role he has played for Muslims in the expanse of Islamic history. Learnings from the holy Prophet Prophets' birth was a gift to mankind by the almighty Allah. There are many Rabi ul Awwal Hadith that integrate his teachings. The prophet is a direction for humanity "There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often." [AlAhzab:21] The above hadith states that Muhammad was chosen by Allah as the final Prophet because of his distinctive character. He was known to be truthful and Al-Amin trustworthy. And he was the kindest of people long before the revelation of the Qur'an was given to him. Helping others The Messenger of Allah, said, 'One who strives to help a widow, or the poor is like one who struggles in the cause of Allah' [Sahih Muslim] This saying by Sahih emphasizes that the objective of the Prophet's life was to spread the message of Islam. The Prophet (peace be upon him) went to great lengths to inform and guide people on the importance of helping others. Giving in charity On the authority of Abu Hurairah (r.a) from the Prophet Muhammad (saw), who said "Allah (SWT) said: 'Spend (on charity), O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.' " Benevolence was among the numerous good qualities of Prophet Muhammad. No was turned away empty-handed in his presence. He always gave preference to the needy over his own needs. Hence, as stated in Rabi ul Awwal Hadith from the Qur'an and the Sunnah, we can learn that every action is rewardable and every step towards another is charity. Rabi Al-Awwal is a way to honor the memory of the Prophet Muhammad and follow his guidance.
