Sababa Jewish Arts & Culture Festival Returns September 18

ST. LOUIS - Aug. 10, 2022 - PRLog -- Sababa, St. Louis' Jewish arts and culture festival, returns on Sunday, September 18, 10 am-5pm, to the Washington University in St. Louis campus. The free festival is a collaboration between the J and the Jewish Federation of St. Louis.

"Sababa is such a wonderful way to gather the entire community and celebrate with art, music and food to experience Jewish culture," said Lynn Wittels, President and CEO of the J. "Our last event was in 2018, but we were unable to host the 2020 Sababa due to the pandemic.  We know many people are eagerly awaiting the return of the festival."

Sababa, Hebrew slang for "Awesome, Cool or That's Great," features local, regional, and national visual art exhibitors, culinary experiences and musical performances, as well as activities from local Jewish organizations. New this year, the festival will feature a dedicated pavilion area for families and children's activities and entertainment, including a magician, yoga, juggling and mad science area.

"Sababa is about uniting and inspiring the Jewish community, as well as sharing our culture with others to build a foundation for unity and understanding," said Brian Herstig, CEO of Jewish Federation.

Concerts by internationally acclaimed a cappella group Six13, native St. Louisian and Jewish rocker Sheldon Low, and Klezundheit!, Missouri's only klezmer band, are all free. In addition, 30 juried artists from the St. Louis Jewish community will be featured with art for purchase ranging from ceramics, drawing, painting, jewelry, glass, sculpture and photography.

Visitors can nosh on traditional favorites such as knishes, pastrami, hot dogs and pretzels, as well as kosher cuisine not normally associated with Jewish culture such as Indian food from St. Louis restaurant Gokul. Kosher ice cream, Dippin' Dots, popcorn and cotton candy will also be served.

The Sababa festival will take place on the parking lot outside Simon Hall near the south entrance of the Washington University in St. Louis campus (near Forsyth Blvd. and Olympian Way). Free parking is available in the Danforth University Center Garage (6475 Forsyth Blvd.).
