PETERBOROUGH, U.K. - July 22, 2022 - PRLog -- Responding to common challenges and a shared existential threat such as climate change could create an historic opportunity for businesses, government, public bodies and regulators to work together to ensure our survival and benefit wider society, future generations and the environment according to Adaptation's chairman, Prof Colin Coulson-Thomas. In a week which has seen record temperatures in some locations, business leaders have assembled for the 31st World Congress on Leadership for Excellence and Innovation, areas in which he believes the priority should be addressing global warming and climate change.

In a Theme Paper he provided for the World Congress Coulson-Thomas suggests that while innovation, enterprise and entrepreneurship are needed before tipping points are reached, after which global warming becomes unstoppable, whether or not an individual company is excellent and/or innovative may be less important than whether a community or society is, and whether we have the individual and collective will and drive to question, think and pursue responsible, inclusive and sustainable activities, lifestyles and outcomes for us and the natural world.

Coulson-Thomas, author of Winning Companies; Winning People believes Excellence and innovation may now need to be less about differentiation and more about our collective survival: "The strategic direction a board provides for excellence and innovation could be to support responsible corporate and collective responses to existential challenges facing mankind such as climate change adaptation and mitigation and the pursuit of UN SDGs."

The professor believes we need to work with the nature rather than abuse and destroy it. He advocates ethical and responsible innovation, which may involve challenging conventional wisdom, supporting transition and transformation journeys, the transfer of capabilities and resources, recognising the importance of diversity, reviewing values, changing habits, practices and priorities, and collective and community innovation.

Prof Colin Coulson-Thomas has a portfolio of international leadership roles. He has held public appointments at local, regional and national level and professorial appointments in Europe, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, India and China. Details of his activities can be obtained from https://www.adaptation.ltd/ The two day World Congress on Leadership for Excellence and Innovation is organised by India's Institute of Directors.
