PRLog -- In 2018, the City of Vancouver reported that approximately 89 million plastic shopping bags and 80 million single-use cups were discarded. The rules on the plastics ban were supposed to come into effect in 2021 to reduce those incredible numbers. Unfortunately, they were pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At last, on January 1, 2022, they came into effect. The City of Vancouver now requires all businesses to charge at least $0.25 for disposable cups, $0.15 for paper bags, and $1 for a new reusable shopping bag. Restaurants can choose to charge more than the baseline fee. According to the City of Vancouver, fees are meant to promote reusable items and reduce single-use waste.
To avoid paying fees, customers can bring their own reusable bags and cups, and this trend is gaining popularity among the public. But it's not always possible to have your own bags and mugs with you, so an alternative solution is essential. Instead of using single-use plastic bags and cups, bioplastic products may be used, striking a balance between convenience and environmental conscientiousness. Although switching to bioplastics may be a bit of a challenge for some businesses, eventually, it may prove to be a good solution. Bioplastic products have all the right advantages to replace shopping bags, cups, containers, straws and utensils and thus keep thousands of pounds of plastic trash from entering landfills and oceans. BioCity is proud to introduce a user-friendly web application to order a variety of bioplastic goods with customizable features so we can all work towards a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
