At the same time, Buddhism mentions only five. The etymology of the word comes in part from ancient Hindu texts, and it was used to mean "wheel". It is also said to be related to the Greek "Kuklos" and the Anglo-Saxon "hveohl".

Chakra refers to one of seven points of connected energy system within the body. Each Chakra is a wheel, spinning and vibrating with energy. From focusing on the overall well being to feeling relaxed and grounded, each of the 7 main chakras is important.

Seven energetic chakras begin at the base of spine and traverse vertically to the top of the head. The first chakra, root chakra or Muladhara,  is nestled in the base of the spine.

The second chakra is sacral chakra or Svadhisthana is positioned above the pubic bone. If the sacral chakra is blocked, overstimulated or unbalanced, some undesirable problems such as PMS, diseases related to the reproductive organs.

The third chakra is solar plexus or Manipura in Sanskrit, is located between the navel and breastbone.  A blockage here can manifest as feeling powerless or superior.

The fourth chakra, or Anahata, is the heart center – it acts as a bridge between the first three physical body related chakras with the upper three more spiritual chakras.

The fifth chakra or Vishuddha, is located in the throat area.  Someone with a blocked throat chakra will feel like they have trouble finding the words to say how they truly feel.

The sixth chakra, or Ajna, which is also known as the "third eye" is located centrally on the forehead.  A third eye blockage can feel like confusion and lack of clarity.

The seventh and final chakra, or Sahaswara, is located at the highest point – the crown of the head. The crown chakra is one's energetic connection to the divine universe. When crown chakra is in imbalance, one feels the disconnect with the world around them.
