ST. PAUL, Minn. - Jan. 22, 2022 - PRLog -- In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, Planting People Growing Justice™ Leadership Institute (PPGJLI) is partnering with the Minnesota Twins major league baseball team for the launch of a writing competition. The topic for the contest will be "What it Means to be a Drum Major for Justice."

"We couldn't be more excited to be partnering with the Minnesota Twins for our first writing competition of 2022," said Dr. Artika Tyner, founder of PPGJLI.

The competition will officially launch on Jan. 17, 2022, and is open to youth in grades K-5. Entries can be in the form of prose, poetry, fiction, or creative non-fiction. Submissions are due by March 1, 2022, and can be submitted online at ppgjli.org/MLK-writing-competition. A first, second, and third place winner will be selected.

PPGJLI seeks to plant the seeds of social change through education, training, and community outreach. The non-profit organization is committed to helping students discover their leadership potential to become the leaders and agents of change for the future.

"Every day is an opportunity to be a servant and empower others to lead," said Tyner.

In the immortal words of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., "If you want to be important – wonderful. If you want to be recognized – wonderful. If you want to be great – wonderful. But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. That's a new definition of greatness. And this morning, the thing I like about it: by giving that definition of greatness, it means that everybody can be great, because everybody can serve."

The partnership between PPGJLI and the Minnesota Twins (https://www.mlb.com/twins) for the new writing contest provides an opportunity for youth to honor King, learn about service, and become a Drum Major for Justice. It's a fitting tribute to King who was known as the conscience of his generation. A minister, civil rights activist, and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, King not only influenced the U.S. – he impacted the entire world.
