GREENVILLE, S.C. - Jan. 6, 2022 - PRLog -- Melissa Whiteford St. Clair is pleased to announce the first anniversary of the release of her first book, "Home Work A Collection of Poems Sparked by One White Woman's Journey on the Matter of Race," to be celebrated at a Meet & Greet Authors' Reception as part of a fundraising event in support of the Pat Conroy Literary Center headquartered in Beaufort, S.C.

The Meet & Greet Authors' Reception is one of three fundraisers being held as part of the Luxe Lowcountry Literary and Leisure Getaway event hosted by Luxe Lowcountry Travel to take place on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from 5-7pm at the Beaufort Inn's Craven Courtyard, 809 Port Republic Street, in Beaufort, S.C.

St. Clair's first book of poetry, "Home Work A Collection of Poems Sparked by One White Woman's Journey on the Matter of Race," brings readers into the heart of the author's expedition into the study of racism and social justice in American history electrified by Harriet Tubman's heroic flight to freedom.

Inspired to write her book of poetry through her participation in a course called "The Matter of Race: White People Committed to Beginning the Journey Together," St. Clair responded to the class's assigned homework through verse. There are over a dozen poems in which she shares her reflections on race in past and current society. Enlighted as a white woman through her participation in the course and study of Harriet Tubman, St. Clair was encouraged by others to publish her collection of "homework" poetry.

"I am excited to celebrate the first anniversary of the release of my book of poetry as part of the fundraisers for the Pat Conroy Literary Center and to be part of inaugural Lowcountry Literary and Leisure Getaway hosted by Luxe Lowcountry Travel," stated St. Clair.

"I launched the poetry collection on Harriet Tubman Day – March 10, 2021. So, participating in the Lowcountry Literary and Leisure Getaway Authors' reception in support of Pat Conroy Literary Center is the perfect way to celebrate the book's first anniversary," she added, "It's an honor to be part of these special events taking place in Beaufort, S.C. where the poems were written."

A portion of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to The Harriet Tubman Monument until monies are raised for its installation next to Tabernacle Baptist Church in Beaufort, S.C.
