Atheists Helping the Homeless, DC, Announces Successful Distribution Event: the Georgetown Ministry

WASHINGTON - Dec. 11, 2021 - PRLog -- The Georgetown Ministry Center in Washington DC (1041 Wisconsin Avenue NW,
Washington 20007) is a day-time, drop-in destination for people who have no homes. It provides showers, laundry services, a telephone, computers, and a place to get away from the street. Telephones and computers are a necessity when job hunting.

The AHHDC is a group of atheist volunteers, but they cannot be just atheists. They are citizens. They want to help, to give, to learn, and to receive. There is nothing to stop them, as atheists, from believing in basic human goodness and wanting to nurture that. They have ethics; they have moral compasses. They are integral parts of our society and are proud to be your family, your friends, and your neighbors and they want to help our community.

People experiencing homelessness are just like you and me. They have dreams, goals, and stories to tell. The AHHDC learned about business efforts in import/export and transportation, day jobs, locations where people without homes sleep rough, and tips to predict if snow is imminent.

Winter is here. Because it is December, mostly pull-over hats, gloves, and thick socks were distributed. About 15 jackets/coats/hoodies were also distributed. As always, mini-flashlights were provided. Socks and flashlights are prized items. If you are on your feet all day, extra socks are a necessity. Flashlights provide a sense of security, even in shelters.

The AHHDC distributes small items to those who cannot carry regular-sized items everywhere they go. The items are for people living on the street, out of a tent or car, in a shelter, or even couch surfing.
