Flooding is the most expensive disaster type. The list of the multiple flood proofing products is important for the professional design community of Architects and Structural Engineers and for communities and property owners that need to work together to reduce the increasing damages. The list was born out of a collaborative effort with Waterloo University in Canada. The Intact Center mission is to find practical and cost effective ways to protect Canadians from the effects of extreme weather events. We acknowledge the dedicated efforts of Intact Center Cheryl Evans in the production of this new landmark document. "To respond to flooding events in Canada today, the majority of residents, businesses and government agencies repeatedly invest large quantities of labour, dollars and landfill space in the deployment and eventual disposal of single-use sandbags. The FMIA Flood Prevention Barrier and Product List provides a user-friendly tool that helps a wide variety of decision-makers consider longer term, proactive investments in re-deployable flood protection barriers. The Intact Centre is pleased to promote the FMIA list to highlight innovative, multiple-use flood protection options that are available for use in communities across Canada," said Cheryl Evans, Director of Home Flood Protection, Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation, University of Waterloo. The list can be located at: https://www.floodmitigationindustry.org/ The Flood Mitigation Industry Association -FMIA is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose members represent the product manufacturers and distributors of flood proofing products, the professional architects and structural engineers, the project managers and contractors that retro fit the buildings, so they don't flood. The primary goals of the FMIA are to educate governments and the public about the importance of flood proofing our buildings, in order to adapt to a changing climate and increasing flood risk. End
