| ![]() AdvisorSmith Finds the U.S Cities Where Retirees are MovingThe states where the most retirees are moving are Arizona and Florida
By: AdvisorSmith To find the cities where retirees are moving, AdvisorSmith used U.S. Census Bureau data from their 2019 American Community Survey. The survey provides the estimated population for each city surveyed and includes the number of residents aged 65 to 74 and aged 75 or older. The survey also provides the percentage of the people in each age group that moved to a city from another county in the state, from out of state, or from overseas within the last year. From the data, AdvisorSmith determined the estimated number of people aged 65 or older who moved to each city within the past year. The study divided cities based on population size, with small cities having 10,000 to 50,000 residents, midsize cities 50,000 to 250,000 residents, and large cities with over 250,000 residents. For each population group, AdvisorSmith ranked the cities by the number of new residents moving to the city that were aged 65 or older. The study found that the top small, midsize, and large retirees moved to were Sun City, AZ; The Villages, FL; and New York, NY.
