AdvisorSmith Finds the Cities With the Most Small Business Owners

NEW YORK - Oct. 29, 2020 - PRLog -- AdvisorSmith, a leading resource for small businesses, released its newest study, where they examined 259 cities in the U.S. to find where the most small business owners are.

AdvisorSmith examined data from the U.S. Census Bureau's Current Population Survey to measure the number of active small business owners in each city. The study identified business owners who identified as self-employed and worked in their business during the week the survey took place. These estimates were used to calculate the number of small business owners per 1,000 residents in each city.

The cities were segmented into small, medium, and large based on their population size to determine the top cities in each city size group. The top small, midsize, and large cities with the most small business owners were Monroe, MI, Ocala, FL, and Bridgeport, CT.

Monroe, MI, had 26,120 small business owners, with the city having 173.6 small business owners per 1,000 people. Among small cities, there were 60.5 small business owners per 1,000 residents.

Ocala, FL, had a total of 49,090 small business owners in the city. The city had 134.3 small business owners per 1,000 residents, while midsize cities' average was 40.7.

Bridgeport, CT 82.2 small business owners per 1,000 residents while the national average for large cities was 43.1. In total, Bridgeport had 77,582 small business owners in the city.
