ASBA Hosts Virtual Conference - "Online in October"

American Society of Botanical Artists plans global gathering of botanical artists

BRONX, N.Y. - Sept. 2, 2020 - PRLog -- ASBA'S 26th Annual Meeting & Conference is going "virtual" offering this live online event Wednesday, October 14 - Sunday, October 18. Mark your calendars now to join us - whether you're a member or not - for all things botanical art!

This is a huge opportunity for first time as well as veteran conference attendees. An array of master demonstrations  and lectures is on tap for members during the day. Evening programming is open to the public. Connect with botanical art enthusiasts from across the country (and around the world). Share your passion for botanical art and be inspired by the art and artistic journeys of ASBA member artists as you engage in the rich content being offered.

Day 1 the conference kicks off with a Welcome Reception that includes a "Lord of the Bog" virtual tour of Splinter Hill Bog famous for its pitcher plants  and carnivorous plants (Mobile, Alabama) and the Premiere of "Dare to be Square" our 2020 small works non-juried exhibition of artwork by conference attendees. Each evening is capped with a virtual social hour – "Meet, Mix & Mingle".

Day 2 offers back to back blocks of three demonstrations by acclaimed master artists who will each demonstrate a particular technique to members. Non-members can join in the evening public program "Portfolios & Passions" featuring presentations of distinctive bodies of work by prolific ASBA-member artists, from the New York Times Garden Column to the Kalahari Desert, art for scientific publication, postage stamps, and retail products, collections of plant families, geographic regions, life cycle stages and more!

Day 3 continues the master demo programming for members while the evening session will bring us three "best of botanicals" programs on business practices for freelancers, ASBA Grant funded projects illustrating art serving science and society and a perennial favorite "Beyond Accuracy – Creating Art".

Day 4 offers more master demos, and "Bring Your Own Banquet" where we will host a virtual fireside chat with the editors and contibutors to ASBA's recently released book Botanical Art Techniques, present ASBA annual awards, and hear from featured guest speaker - art historian Rebecca Albiani of Seattle who will present the art and life of Maria Sibylla Merian.

Day 5 we end with the final master demos and a Juror Training Workshop – join a panel of jurors to curate a mock exhibition using ASBA's criteria and process for jurying its international exhibitions. Recordings of most sessions will be available to registrants for 24 hours.

Registration is now open. To learn more, go to www.asba-art.org/conference/2020-virtual
