BOCA RATON, Fla. - Aug. 7, 2020 - PRLog -- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is an agency within the U.S. Government's Health & Human Services (HHS) department that administers the nation's major healthcare programs. The Five-Star Quality Rating System was designed to help consumers, their families and caregivers to be able to compare Medicare Health Plans.

The exception for a Five (5) Star Plan is that a person currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan can switch from their current Advantage Plan to a Five (5) Star Medicare Cost Plan or Medicare Prescription Drug Plan once annually between December 8th and November 30th. Star ratings are reviewed and updated annually and posted in October. Not all geographic areas have Five (5) Star plans.

Those enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan with less than a Five (5) Star rating can switch to a Five (5) Star rated plan but must wait until the Annual Enrollment or Annual Open Enrollment periods to make changes to other plans. Those dates are from October 15th to December 7th annually. Medicare Advantage Open enrollment is from January 1st to March 31st annually.

Those turning or have recently attained the age of 65 years old have a limited period to enroll in Medicare. Enrollment dates range for seven (7) months. Three months prior to your 65th birthday, the month of your birth and three months after your birth month.  To be able to enroll in a supplemental Medicare Health Plan an individual is required to be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B.

Medicare Plans can be confusing; it is advised that those interested seek professional guidance. Every health situation may be different; Diabetes, Heart Conditions and Cancer to name a few may need special attention.
