CHARLOTTE, N.C. - March 27, 2020 - PRLog -- Coronavirus, or COVID-19, has been a hot topic in recent weeks, and for good reason. It is drastically changing how our country is run, from national to state to local levels. Everyone is working together to keep people safe and to try to slow the spread of the virus. Kuester Management Group has released a statement to the press regarding how HOAs can do their part and adjust their own operations.

"First and foremost, HOAs should encourage members to stay home as much as possible and practice safe social distancing, keeping at least six feet away from others," says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "It can be tempting to let kids play with their friends or neighbors, especially if they feel fine, but this is discouraged. You can be a carrier and spread the disease before you show symptoms, and you could be asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms, not even realizing you're sick."

Along these same lines, HOAs should cancel or postpone any community activities for the next several weeks, says Kuester. Look more toward planning events for the end of summer or early fall. It is a good idea to temporarily shut down community amenities as well such as gyms, business centers, clubhouses, and playgrounds. Follow guidelines provided by the CDC or World Health Organization (WHO) regarding social gatherings.

All HOA meetings should be held virtually if possible. Invite board members to use an online video conferencing platform or conference call so that everyone can hear one another and contribute to the discussion. Depending on HOA governing documents, some issues may be able to be decided via email as well. Double-check to see what is and is not allowed in your association.

"The HOA should communicate any changes with members so that they know what is happening, what is expected, and how the association is handling this evolving situation," says Kuester.

Kuester Management Group encourages HOAs to reach out with any questions or concerns and partner with their community manager regarding how to manage ongoing operations.
