Canadian Tire Welland Floatfest Cancelled Due To Covid19

WELLAND, Ontario - March 24, 2020 - PRLog -- Canadian Tire Welland Floatfest scheduled for July 5, 2020 has been postponed until 2021 as a result of Covid 19. The board of directors had a virtual emergency meeting late last night where the decision was made.

Media spokesperson Daniela Siggia said, "Although we hope this pandemic is over long before the summer, the amount of planning required to organize an event of this scale is being severely impacted by state of emergency protocols and community safety has to be ours, and everyone's first priority. We also wish to take any immediate pressure off our sponsors and vendors that may be experiencing momentary hardship at this time. Although we are very disappointed, we know it is the right thing to do both for our partners as well as the safety of the public. 2021 however, will be the biggest Floatfest yet, and we look forward to having a lot to celebrate with our community at that time."

One of the defining aspects of the festival is the Community Food Drive component. Local food banks counted on that collection to refill their shelves at a time of year when donations traditionally decline. The festival organizers urge fans and supporters to continue supporting Community Food Drives througout the year. It is anticipated that food bank use will increase in the coming months. In this spirit, Welland Canadian Tire has committed to donating $5000 to be split between Hope Centre and Open Arms Mission to help them stock their shelves at this time.
