Lowcountry Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine's Founder Dr. Joel Cox Retires

Dr. Cox, after 45 years at Lowcountry Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, recently retired. Says Dr. James Spearman, "He has been a great mentor and the founder of our group."
Dr. Cox is a founding partner of Lowcountry Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine, establishing it as a private practice in 1975 upon discharge from the military. Under his lead, the practice has grown to five locations, an oupatient surgery center, and fifteen board certified subspecialty trained physicians offering the most advanced comprehensive orthopaedic care in the region. Says Dr. Don Stovall, "He founded the practice on the principles of quality health care, patient satisfaction and a close knit family type environment."
Through the years Dr. Cox has been very active in the community, particularly in the Summerville area. He has held various positions with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeon, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, South Carolina Medical Association, South Carolina Orthopaedic Association, and the Dorchester County Medical Society as Past President. In addition, he has been involved in various local athletic teams. Patients have come to know and love Dr. Cox. Says one staffer, "We will miss seeing him in the hallways and definitely miss that mustache!"
