The Lori Fund Donates $100K to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation

PALM COAST, Fla. - March 11, 2020 - PRLog -- The Lori Fund, a 501c3 headquartered in Palm Coast, Florida held a charity golf tournament on February 21, 2020 at Hammock Beach Resort's The Ocean Course to benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. That evening at the awards banquet, Frankie Petruno, The Lori Fund founder and director, presented a check for $100,000 to the Warrior Foundation.

"The weather did not cooperate at all during the golf tournament," said Frankie. "It was cloudy, winds of 40 mph and about 50 degrees," he added. Frankie was sure when he arrived that morning that no one would be there but that was far from the case.  All 144 players not only showed up, but no one quit. "I was humbled. It was by far the worst conditions I've ever seen for golf. Two things are certain, no one will ever forget the weather, and no one will ever forget Lori.  It certainly made for a memorable day," Frankie added with a smile.

Following the golf tournament, a silent auction and awards ceremony were held at the Hammock Beach Resort. During this event, Ret. two-star General Clayton Hutmacher, the President and CEO of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, shared the value provided to veterans and their families by organizations like SOWF and The Lori Fund. Those sentiments were echoed by Breanna Walters, a SOWF family member. Breanna lost her Dad in 2003 in a helicopter tragedy in Afghanistan when she was nine years old. A total of five military personnel died in that crash. Breanna and her four sisters were all provided with a college education and support from SOWF.

Frankie Petruno started The Lori Fund, a 501c3, after his wife, Lori Sullivan, passed away on April 11, 2019.  To honor Lori's legacy, Frankie turned his personal tragedy into something that embodied her philanthropy by giving to others. "I am so touched by the overwhelming success of this event - I cannot thank everyone enough for their contributions, support and volunteerism," said Frankie. "We pledged to keep Lori's legacy alive by helping others, and everyone's generosity made this a reality," added Frankie.
