Physiotherapy Appointments Available at Clinic in Knowle Village

FAREHAM, U.K. - Feb. 21, 2020 - PRLog -- The importance of choosing a physiotherapist who is registered

Denise Ferguson of Dragonfly Wellbeing Physiotherapy practice in Fareham, discusses the importance of choosing a therapist who has the right qualifications for a patient's condition which can only be authenticated if the clinician belongs to a governing body.

Denise explains as a Physiotherapist we are medical professionals. A physiotherapist is trained in muscular skeletal, neurological and respiratory conditions. Our practical training is within hospitals with real patients and conditions and the theory aspect of training is held within university over three years in England. Physiotherapists are one of a small number of professions to be authenticated to train and work in the NHS establishments which enables experience with a wide variety of conditions.

After completion of the Physiotherapy Degree, the physiotherapist will belong to the HCPC; this is the regulating governing body of health professionals. Each professional is given a number and a patient can check to what level the therapist is qualified. Denise is one of only 1,000 physiotherapists in the UK to have a prescribing annotation which acknowledges she can prescribe medications within her scope of practice.

Denise explains, when a professional therapist belongs to a governing body, the patient is protected. The patient can check authentication of the therapist's name, for example are they who they proclaim to be? Do they have the adequate qualifications to treat a condition a patient presents with, and does the therapist have insurance? Without regulation and belonging to a governing body, an unsuspecting patient is left very vulnerable not knowing if the therapist is running under a different name, or if they have convictions? Most importantly if a patient has a complaint, it is the regulating body who will help the patient and the patient will have a direct line of contact.

There are several professions in the UK who are not regulated, for instance massage therapists. These therapists do have organisations they can join and patients can check their accreditation, however there and some therapists in various professions who chose to run under the radar of no regulation and do not belong to a governing body or organisation for reasons unknown which leaves the unsuspecting patient unprotected.

Denise is passionate about caring for patients, ensuring therapists work within their scope of practise and do not proclaim or undertake therapies which they have not been trained for or within their scope as a profession. To check out Denise's credentials please review
