St Nicholas-at-Wade 2020 concert series

Popular village church again schedules numerous musical events, sponsored by local publisher

ST NICHOLAS-AT-WADE, U.K. - Feb. 7, 2020 - PRLog -- The picturesque church in Thanet village St Nicholas-at-Wade is again playing host to a variety of charity concerts, sponsored by local publisher Ozaru Books.

First up is "Stories with Strings", on Sunday 1 March (3pm) - an afternoon's entertainment to celebrate St David's Day and Beethoven's 250th anniversary.

Two short talks by St Nicholas-at-Wade regular Andrea Chance punctuate a programme of string chamber music - including one of Beethoven's popular Razumovsky quartets - with the church organ joining too in places (popular Welsh hymns and folksongs will be included for those wanting to sing along).

The Pensiero Quartet was formed this year by students from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, with members from all over the world: violinists Kanon Miyashita and Yuriko Matsuda from Japan, violist Matt Johnstone from England, and cellist Julia Sompolińska from Poland. They recently performed the Beethoven at Wigmore Hall as part of its Beethoven 250 concert series. All the quartet's members lead active performing schedules, with groups or organizations including the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble, Southampton University Sinfonietta, the Young Virtuosi Festival, LSO, London Schools Symphony Orchestra, Southbank Sinfonia, CBSO, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Guildhall Symphony Orchestra and more.

Following this, on Saturday 14 March (7.30pm), there is an "Organic Bells!" concert, with popular music from across the centuries: Bach to Brubeck and beyond...

The internationally renowned Bedford Handbell Ensemble will make a welcome return to the church, and the whole concert is on the theme of bells, with various organ 'carillons' and other pieces for a range of instruments to add variety to the proceedings. The provisional programme ranges from organ classics such as Mulet's "Carillon-Sortie" through Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite up to modern musical numbers including "If I were a Bell" from Guys and Dolls.

There will be several other concerts later on in the year, finishing with the Invicta Concert Band at a Christmas performance.

Unless otherwise noted, entry is £10 on the door, £8 advance, under-18s free, and refreshments available for a donation, with all proceeds in aid of the Friends of St Nicholas at Wade Church.
