LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. - Oct. 31, 2019 - PRLog -- Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have been applied successfully for the removal or degradation of toxic pollutants. The efficacy depends on the generation of highly reactive free radicals, the most important of which is the hydroxyl radical (HO•) which destroys synthetic organic chemicals in water and wastewater treatment processes.
The newest advanced oxidation technology in the market is a mineral oxychloride solution created and manufactured in USA. It is a stabilized formulation based on Fenton-Haber-Weiss principles of transition mineral catalyzed reactions for the generation of reactive oxygen species. Simply put, Bio-hydrox will achieve in less than 30 seconds a 6-log reduction of most waterborne pathogens and at the same time it will oxidize organic matter without generating disinfection byproducts.
Bio-hydrox has the highest hydroxyl radical production among all chemically catalyzed advanced oxidation processes. At the same time, hydroxyl radical has the highest oxidation potential among all reactive oxygen species, twice that of chlorine and much, much rapid. Comparing with ozonation, the reaction speed of OH-radicals is much higher than that of ozone. Globally, ozone has a reaction speed of between 1 and 103 L mol-1 s-1. For OH-radicals, the reaction speed lies between 108 en 1010 L mol-1 s-1. Hydroxyl radicals oxidizes most organic compounds almost at reaction rates. This means, as soon as Bio-hydrox comes in contact with organic matter it will break them down.
Hydroxyl radical reactions are largely non-selective. It will react by decomposition with all compounds it will encounter on its path and when it is present in sufficient amounts, it will continue the chemical breakdown and degradation into simpler compounds until reaching the highest oxidation state. Residuals are CO2, O2, H2O, mineral salts and trace nutrients.
Bio-hydrox used as a pre-oxidant will lower the dissolved organic matter and with monitoring of ORP you can control the formation of DBPs in the final disinfection phase and avoid violations.
