| America Recycles Day Returns to Coolray Field November 9Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management to Host Recycling Event; Volunteers Needed
By: Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful Items that will be collected at Gwinnett's America Recycles Day event include: · Electronics – $15 cash fee per TV or computer monitor and a $5 cash fee per printer · Tires – eight tires per vehicle, no dealer tires · Paint – 10 gallons per vehicle · Ink cartridges · Clothing and sneakers · Paper for secure shredding – five copier paper boxes per vehicle First established by the National Recycling Coalition in 1997 and carried on by Keep America Beautiful in the years since, America Recycles Day represents the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy recycled products. Last year, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management – with the help of 140 volunteers – served an estimated 4,000 residents in the recycling or safe disposal of difficult to recycle items that are not accepted curbside in Gwinnett. Over the course of just three hours, they collected more than 2,200lbs of clothes and shoes, 484 ink cartridges, over 6,500 gallons of paint, 26,000lbs of tires and 45,400lbs of electronics. "Based on the reaction we've seen to events like our Hazardous Household Waste Collection Day earlier this year and previous America Recycles Day events, we're expecting a big turnout from the public on November 9," said Schelly Marlatt, Executive Director for Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. "To help us manage a long line of cars and a number of stations for the various kinds of recyclables, we'll need lots of great volunteers. They must be 14 years of age or older, so it's a great service activity for high school Green Teams, sports teams, youth ministries, corporate teams, civic groups and more."
