UltraFlex brazing simultaneously T-shaped copper assemblies in mere 8 seconds using induction heater

The brazing process, in addition to being time-efficient, was also energy- and cost-efficient.

RONKONKOMA, N.Y. - Sept. 26, 2019 - PRLog -- A test induction brazing application requested by a customer working in the sphere of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning has recently been demonstrated by UltraFlex Power Technologies. The company - a leading manufacturer of digitally controlled induction solutions - performs test induction heating applications per customer request, to prove the time, energy and cost-efficiency of induction heating compared to torch-based heating.

In this test scenario, copper tubes of 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm in diameter ( 015⁄64, 05⁄16, 025⁄64, 015⁄32 inch) and thickness 1 mm ( 03⁄64 inch.) had to be brazed together. UltraFlex 5-15 kW induction heating system from the UltraFlex UltraHeat W series had been used, along with UBraze Handheld brazing system. UltraHeat W induction heaters are advanced, cost-effective 5-15 kW Induction Heating systems utilizing the latest switching power supply technology. They are configured to operate with external Heat Stations allowing output connections to be available from all sides.

Cu-P-Ag alloy rings were placed around the thinner of the copper pipes, with no additional flux needed for the brazing. Since a handheld brazing gun was used in this case, the use of alloy rings was highly recommended to achieve a strong and reliable joint.

The induction brazing was done using power output of 7-8 kW and a standard induction heating coil. For more complex / difficult to access heated assemblies, UltraFlex provides custom designed coils upon request. Once the brazing was complete, the samples were submerged in cold water in order to be cooled instantly.

It took as little as 8 seconds to accomplish this simultaneous pipe brazing and achieve strong and reliable pipe joints. The brazing process, in addition to being time-efficient, was also energy- and cost-efficient. In addition, since induction brazing involves no open flame, it is a completely green operation - with no smoke, pollution and noxious emissions.
