CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Sept. 20, 2019 - PRLog -- Everything the HOA does is dictated by its governing documents. These documents outline the policies and standards the association is expected to abide by. But just because there are existing rules does not mean they shouldn't be adjusted as time passes. In a new statement to the press, Kuester Management Group outlines why the HOA should regularly review documents.

"HOAs change and evolve over time," says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "Membership, amenities, technology, and society all change. With regular review of governing documents, the board can ensure that it remains compliant and relevant with today's standards."

The needs and challenges of communities can change. When the board initially enacted a rule, it may have been beneficial. But as the association has transformed, that rule may have become outdated or difficult to enforce.

The board should work with its property manager and legal team to stay abreast of new legislation that affects HOAs. Since governing documents are often superseded by these rulings, they must be amended for compliance. The board should strive to make changes in a timely manner.

Regularly reviewing rules can also highlight areas where there may be confusion or vagueness. Insight from multiple board members is beneficial because they may interpret things differently and bring up concerns others had overlooked. The association can then take steps to provide clarification and maintain consistency with enforcement.

"Updating rules can also build greater trust and engagement from members," notes Kuester. "They realize that policies are not set in stone, and there is room for improvement. It can stimulate dialogue around various issues that are up for voting because members know that their input can make a difference."

As society changes, HOAs must keep pace. That means putting rules in place that make sense in the current environment. The HOA shouldn't be operating as it did 30 years ago. While that doesn't mean overhauling everything, it does mean making changes when appropriate and necessary.

Kuester Management Group helps HOAs stay abreast of current trends and expectations and ensure that they are operating as effectively and efficiently as possible. Learn more by visiting www.kuester.com.
