World congress call for responsible use of energy and water

NEW DELHI - Sept. 1, 2019 - PRLog -- The responsible generation of energy and extraction of water and their responsible use was championed by Prof Colin Coulson-Thomas during a renewable energy congress and water summit in New Delhi at which he shared findings from his latest investigations. He told delegates that self-sufficient communities tend to be frugal: "Around the village where I grew up individual homesteads had tiny wind mills that generated electricity. Fresh water springs fed small reservoirs."

The Adaptation chairman told delegates: "In hotter climates, might traditional cooling towers be less resource intensive than modern air conditioning? Can we learn from ancient practices for capturing water and using it sparingly? We need to remember the natural resources that are used in the manufacture of the physical offerings you produce and the environmental consequences of their end-of-life disposal."

"We need to ensure the physical infrastructure of renewable energy and the supply of water are recyclable and make minimal demands on limited natural capital. We need economic innovation in the sharing and circular economies. We need social innovation in saving energy and water and living simpler, less stressful and healthier lives."

In his valedictory address Coulson-Thomas reminded delegates of the importance of ensuring the availability of sustainable energy and water for future generations: "Energy and water are two fundamentals of all our lives. We are 60% water and to work, cook and be comfortable we need a supply of energy."

The professor and author of Winning Companies; Winning People concluded: "Water shortages threaten major cities and many communities. Unless urgent action is taken, water is increasingly likely to be a cause of future wars. We should never take being alive for granted and never take energy and water for granted."

Coulson-Thomas was speaking after delivering plenary and keynote speeches at the 10^th World Renewable Energy Technology Congress. During the combined inauguration of the congress and the 3^rd World Water Summit he received the Energy and Environment Foundation's 2019 Global Excellence Award in Renewable Energy.
