"We need to ensure the physical infrastructure of renewable energy and the supply of water are recyclable and make minimal demands on limited natural capital. We need economic innovation in the sharing and circular economies. We need social innovation in saving energy and water and living simpler, less stressful and healthier lives." In his valedictory address Coulson-Thomas reminded delegates of the importance of ensuring the availability of sustainable energy and water for future generations: The professor and author of Winning Companies; Winning People concluded: "Water shortages threaten major cities and many communities. Unless urgent action is taken, water is increasingly likely to be a cause of future wars. We should never take being alive for granted and never take energy and water for granted." Coulson-Thomas was speaking after delivering plenary and keynote speeches at the 10th World Renewable Energy Technology Congress. During the combined inauguration of the congress and the 3rd World Water Summit he received the Energy and Environment Foundation's 2019 Global Excellence Award in Renewable Energy.
