Heart of Hospice Supports Make-A-Wish Foundation to Help Patient's Dreams Come True

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Aug. 20, 2019 - PRLog -- Paislee Alford, a nine-year-old aspiring princess, was recently granted a trip to Disney World and Sea World by the Make-A-Wish Foundation - Mississippi; the Heart of Hospice team helped execute this fantasy. Paislee was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma when she was seven years old and she had always dreamed of visiting the most magical place on earth. When her Heart of Hospice care team learned about this life-changing experience, they sprung into action, making sure she was prepared by equipping her with Mickey Mouse ears, a princess dress, and various other Disney related items.

Amanda Houck, Senior Administrator at Heart of Hospice, shares: "Paislee is the definition of courageous. She has been fighting Osteosarcoma for two years as of August 2019 and has achieved remission two times since her first diagnosis when she was only seven. At this point her cancer has returned, but despite its aggressiveness, Paislee continues to stand tall and strong."

Make-A-Wish Foundation - Mississippi and Heart of Hospice knew they had to help her see her dreams to fruition. Paislee's trip included swimming with the dolphins through the Dolphin Experience at Sea World as well as visiting Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Blizzard Beach. Prior to the trip, she shared with her Heart of Hospice team that she couldn't be more excited for her first plane ride, the snacks she would get, her double bubble chewing gum to keep her ears from popping during her flight, and the movies she would be able to watch.

Houck and some of her team members—Angela Redwine, Registered Nurse Case Manager, Sharon Taylor Business Office Manager, and Diana Tolliver, Director of Patient Care—visited Paislee and presented her with all her Disney goodies in preparation for her departure. Paislee was happy to share the spotlight with her twin sister, Presleigh, and her younger brother, Bryson. After her trip, Paislee returned to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee for further scans but was beaming from ear to ear.
