Follow on Google News | BondGirl Books Announces Women's Suffrage Centennial Reading ListBy: BondGirl Books "The history of the women's suffrage movement is rich and complex," said Jean Humphrey, book club facilitator, "It is impossible to tell the story from one point of view. That is why the BGB Women's Suffrage Centennial Reading List includes titles from diverse voices. The list includes historic classics that are found in the public domain as well as new releases." The earliest title on the list is a letter written in 1776 by Abigail Adams, the wife of the second U.S. president, John Adams. In the letter, Abigail Adams famously urges her husband a member of the Continental Congress to "remember the ladies." The goal of the reading list is to raise awareness about not only the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in America, but also about the lives of people who took part in the movement. "We believe there is great value in reading what Ida B. Wells-Barnett wrote on lynching at the same time history records her forming the Alpha Suffrage Club," said Humphrey. The current list includes 10 titles. BGB will add titles throughout the suffrage centennial anniversary year. To download the list and suggest titles, visit BondGirl Books.com. Throughout Washington, DC, there are a number of organizations like the bipartisan Women's Suffrage Centennial Commission and the National Smithsonian Museums that are working to raise awareness of suffrage history. The WSCC website (http://www.womensvote100.org) includes informative blogs about women's suffrage. Additionally, sites like LibriVox (librivox.org) BondGirl Books is a community of readers and writers celebrating authors who are bringing smart back. End
