-- Novadata has been named as one of the first UK transport training providers to deliver a new Smart Motorways Driver CPC course, devised and developed by Highways England. Says Managing Director Su Winch, "We were delighted to be approached by Highways England about delivering this course as part of our wide selection of Driver CPC courses. Smart motorways are new to some drivers and it will be increasingly important in the coming years that they fully understand how to use them with confidence. This new course will help to ensure that our candidates drive compliantly and in accordance with best practice, supporting the aim of smart motorways to reduce congestion and improve journey times."
This course provides a rich context to the introduction of smart motorways and explains the different types of smart motorway and where they can currently be found. It explains the use of variable speed limits and the loss of the hard shoulder in order to improve traffic flow; as well as the reiterating the vital role of the driver and the need for a well maintained vehicle, a properly distributed and secured load and awareness of the driving environment.
It is essential, says Novadata, that drivers understand the changes in best practice that accompany smart motorway driving, so that the advantages which they deliver can be maximised, without inadvertently contravening the law. "As the logistics framework subtly changes on a frequent basis, it is important to use Driver CPC training to ensure that we keep pace, as an industry, with the latest innovations and benefits," adds Su Winch.
As smart motorways increasingly become the norm across the nation's motorway network, this new Smart Motorways Driver CPC course will help to ensure that best practice is employed by drivers throughout the UK.
