Hotel Consulting Firms: Gaming regulator to increase fines for non-compliant casino operators?

Gambling advertisements have been restricted and operators have already been instructed to stop using the no deposit bonus or free bonus to urge new players to start gambling. New South Wales had implemented these restrictions but gaming operators found new ways to side step them. NSW currently allows only racing websites to offer special bonuses but casino operators still found a way to encourage customers to gamble by using other websites to promote their special coupons and discounts.

Because of these breaches, several operators have been pulled up. The NSW gaming regulator is registering about two non-compliance reports a month and issuing non-compliance fines. However, while the NSW gaming regulator has already collected almost $92,000 in combined fees since June 2018, it does not appear to have impeded the non-compliant operators.

The fines are not a major deterrent for operators to be compliant and the regulator is being urged to impose heavier fines. It seems that major gaming operators are happy to pay for these small amounts and simply consider it a cost of its operations. Liquor and Gaming NSW is now planning to increase the fine to up to $38,000 per non-compliance incident, which is 10 times more than the current fine.
