FRANK REYES, one of the best-known bachata artists in the world, was born in the town of Tenares in the Dominican Republic to a family of farmers. He discovered his musical talent as a young boy and formed a singing group with his brothers. At the age of twelve, he moved 90 miles away to the capital city of Santo Domingo, where he worked odd jobs until he could establish a grocery store business. There he was discovered by Juan Genáo, who produced his first album Tú Serás Mi Reina. Of the eleven songs on the record, eight were written by Reyes, including the hits "Voy Pa' Lla" and "Como Fui A Enamorarme De Ti". During the years 1993 to 1996, Frank recorded four additional albums with Genáo Records including 1993's Si El Amor Condena, Estoy Condenado and El Príncipe. These albums contained the hits "Suspiro de Amantes", "Se Fue Mi Amor Bonito", "La Lay De La Vida", and "Basta Ya". Moving to J&N Records, he released Vine a Decirte Adiós with its hit title song and "Ya No Te Creo Nada". This album firmly established Reyes as the Prince of Bachata and won the Casandra Award for Bachatero of the Year and was nominated by Acroarte, the Dominican art journalists' association. His next album Extraño Mi Pueblo was an even bigger hit locally, and then in 2000, Reyes released his album Amor En Silencio which contained the song "Tu Eres Ajena", which became an international hit. He started touring internationally and released Dejame Entrar en Ti in 2002, which included the super hit "Nada De Nada", and remained on the Spanish-language charts for 18 months. In 2004 Frank Reyes performed at Madison Square Garden and Shea Stadium in New York City. That year he released En Vivo, with its hit "Se Fue Mi Amor Bonito", and Cuando Se Quiere Se Puede that included the smash hit "Quien Eres Tu". The latter album was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Tropical Albumand won three Cassandra Awards. 2005 saw the release of the smash hit "Princesa" from the album Dosis de Amor, and 2007's release of Te Regalo el Mar, with its hit title tune, as well as a second top song "Amor Desperdiciado" Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. is supported, in part, with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the New York City Council.
