Newspaper Recognizes Author Joe Tennis

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - May 2, 2019 - PRLog -- Jan-Carol Publishing, Inc., of Johnson City, Tennessee, is proud to announce that Swamped! by author Joe Tennis has been featured in The Virginian-Pilot.

Swamped! follows four teenagers from the suburbs into a saltwater swamp loaded with marsh grass, fiddler crabs, and at least one snake. These teens are forced to find their way home after breaking an oar on their rowboat, but they constantly get sidetracked in conversations that range from politics and religion to love, cigarettes, and the philosophies of Henry David Thoreau.

The novel was featured in The Virginian-Pilot during April in an article written by David Macaulay. The article, entitled "Get Lost in Swamped!, Writer's Coming-of-Age Novel About Adventure in Back Bay" includes a personal interview with Tennis in which he describes the true life events that inspired his novel. "In April 1985, the 16-year-old Tennis from Kempsville camped with two friends near Sandbridge," Macaulay writes. He goes on to share more from Tennis' story, "The three boys left their boat on a bank, fearing it was going to be taken by the wind into the North Bay. They wrote a message on the seat cushion of the boat with a pen reading: 'HELP! Oar broke upstream — drifted — went to find new oar. Will be back around 2:00. Please send help.' The line also appears in the novel."
